This course is geared toward the Beginner / Intermediate Audience Level

While writing a fantasy-specific romance may sound easier than writing a contemporary novel, it's extremely challenging. Yes, you can create your own world so no one can check your facts. However, there are some hard and fast rules you cannot break if your novel is to succeed in today's tough market. In this course, you'll learn those rules as well as world-building and creating a fantasy character who works with magic, powers, and abilities of which a mere mortal can only dream.

This intensive four-week course consists of two lessons a week, posted Saturdays and Wednesdays. At the end of each lesson, you'll be given a writing exercise to be completed by the next lesson. These exercises will help you learn the techniques of fantasy writing, to understand what it takes to make your fantasy characters come alive, and more. By the end of the course, you should have a clear understanding of the components of a fantasy novel, know how to create a rough draft of your fantasy world, and integrate your characters into that world.

You'll learn:

  • What a fantasy-specific romance is
  • What makes it differ from any other type of fantasy romance
  • What exemplifies this type of fantasy
  • How to classify your work if it crosses genres
  • The Rules of the Game in creating a fantasy world which should not be broken
  • Five basic ways to build a world for your characters and how to make sure your characters can live in it
  • How to blend in all the elements to make your character a true fantasy being
  • How to create a well-rounded character with all the powers and special abilities befitting a fantasy character
  • How to entwine the structure of the fantasy throughout your novel so it doesn't appear forced
  • How to create a background for your world and characters that will ignite the imagination of your readers
  • You'll also be given tips for keeping the fantasy elements of your world in place, creating your outline before you begin your novel, and even diagramming your world.
